President, American Federation of Teachers,
On Success of Chicago Teacher Advancement Program
Chicago Teacher Advancement Program, or Chicago TAP, is a comprehensive school improvement program that recognizes the contributions made by all school staff toward a student's learning. Chicago 's program was developed collaboratively by the school district's partners—the Chicago Public Education Fund, Chicago Principals and Administrators Association, the Chicago Teachers Union , the Broad Foundation and the Joyce Foundation. Chicago TAP offers opportunities for job-embedded professional development, career advancement and performance-based incentives.
"Chicago TAP can really reinvigorate your career. After my second year as a career teacher, I thought I had everything done and figured out. Then I started thinking...I will be doing this for 20 more years! I think most teachers love to learn and grow. Their work is about seeing potential in students and helping them realize it. So it just makes sense that teachers also value and appreciate their own potential. Chicago TAP is a wonderful program to catapult teachers...get them out of that box. Public school teachers are not made from the same mold. We are constantly changing and learning. We want what is best for our kids.” – Michelle Corpus, Lead Teacher, Multicultural Arts High School
